ELN: Dr. Vasermanas, sabemos que la respuesta que hubo en relación al reportaje realizado días atrás fue muy importante. ¿Es así?. ¿Tantos diabéticos hay en Olavarría?
Dr. Vasermanas: Si, efectivamente, la nota ha puesto en relieve la situación del diabético de Olavarría, que no es muy diferente a la de cualquier diabético del resto del país. Los pacientes en su gran mayoría, me plantean el interminable tiempo de espera que tienen en el Hospital Público no solo para tener un pronto acceso a los turnos, sino para realizarse los estudios complementarios y detectar complicaciones de la enfermedad. Y esta realidad se debe a que el Hospital está colapsado en Guardia y en consultorios externos, situación que se agravó por el conflicto de IOMA con FEMEBA, lo que hace que esa masa de pacientes, mutualizados, no pueden acceder a la atención primaria por ese conflicto, y se vuelcan al Hospital para resolver su problema de salud, agravando aún más el colapso sanitario. A eso hay que agregar los problemas en la atención de pacientes que los conflictos sindicales también generan a los enfermos
ELN: Un tema que a los diabéticos les preocupa mucho y tiene que ver fundamentalmente con el temor que la diabetes les despierta ante la posibilidad de amputaciones. Quê le podemos decir a esos pacientes,?
Dr. Vasermanas: El tema de las amputaciones en el diabético es muy preocupante no para ellos, y también para los médicos. Las amputaciones, de uno o más dedos, o las que son más amplias, como es la amputación de un miembro inferior por debajo ó por arriba de la rodilla, cambia la vida social, laboral y psicológica del enfermo, es un trauma difícil de asumir, pero, cuando se debe tomar esta decisión, la misma no es de un día para otro.
Esto va precedido mucho tiempo antes, donde las complicaciones que la enfermedad desencadena, vasculares y neuropáticas no son diagnosticadas prematuramente, y por lo tanto siguen evolucionando hasta que obstruyen la pequeña y la gran circulación generando lesiones que producen úlceras de pequeñas hasta gigantes, en las que asocian infecciones de gran magnitud, como gangrenas, que ponen en riesgo la vida de ese diabético.
Le voy a pasar algunas ilustraciones de unos pies diabéticos que han llegado a esa situación por desidia, por falta de consulta precoz, que es lo que puede evitar llegar a esa etapa.
